A byproduct of Dr. Provencher’s work developing wellness, injury prevention and rehabilitation programs for the Naval Special Forces and New England Patriots was the creation of elaborate data sets to analyze and track players’ injuries. Since these metrics could be used to evaluate current players as well draft candidates, Dr. Provencher’s engineering background gave him the impetus to expand the backbone of his analytics with artificial intelligence and make his analytics platform more accessible to team owners and coaches.As long-time Fantasy Football players frustrated with the user experience on most websites and apps that give advice, cheat sheets and news, Dr. Provencher’s proprietary analytics platform caught our attention. As the Head Orthopaedic Team Physician for the Navy Seal Teams 1, 3, 5 and 7, he was also instrumental in setting up the Special Forces Tactical Athlete Program (TAP) - a comprehensive wellness, injury prevention and rehabilitation program for Naval Special Forces. This program was so successful that upon fulfilling his Navy obligation, Dr. Provencher became the Medical Director and Head Team Physician for the New England Patriots football team where he pioneered a similar wellness and injury prevention program for the team, in which the Patriots went on to win several Superbowls.. He was also the assistant team physician for the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Bruins.Dr. Provencher graduated with Distinction (Highest Honors) with a Major in Electrical Engineering from the United States Naval Academy, and completed his medical education at Dartmouth Medical School, where he graduated with honors. He completed his orthopaedic residency at the Naval Medical Center San Diego and his orthopaedic shoulder, knee, and sports surgery fellowship in Chicago at Rush University. A prolific researcher, he has received numerous academic and research awards and millions of dollars in numerous peer-reviewed grants from funding agencies. His research includes over 300 peer-reviewed publications and articles, 148 chapters, and has authored six textbooks. He has given over 900 national and international presentations in the realm of sports medicine and leadership.Dr. Provencher currently practices and conducts research at The Steadman Clinic and Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, CO, and continues his duties assisting The Naval Special Warfare community in Coronado, CA.
